1952: the Teheran experience of Mia (exc.)

Mia Aachen, neé Bluem, choose another strategy to overcome the hardships of post-war Cologne. She joined a Cologne based dancing company and a variety show as well. This decision was made to some disapproval of her father and her brother. Later on she settled in California and had a family of her own.

The pictures that came into the pool of the familys’s photographs are from a variety show in Teheran dated November 1952. [Mind the funny detail on the photo above: two persons are half visible behind the curtain.]

Imagine the number of whip lashes a woman like Mia would certainly receive in today’s Mullah Iran…

Carnival

The carnival group Peter belonged to were the ”Schusterjungen“. Every carnival group tried hard to participate in the carnival procession. It made grown up men weep if their club could’t take part in it for one year.

The topmost pictures show the ”Schusterjungen“ in a carnival procession. The next four pictures show Franziska and Peter try on their costumes in 1953. The last two pictures display Peter and a friend in Kimonos in the sixties.

Kappesrollen has quite a tradition in Vogelsang. For this competition you have to roll a cabbage for a given distance. This belongs to the dna of the Vogelsang quarter.

The both topmost pictures are of private origin. They might be from the sixties. The two pictures on the bottom are from the “Als Koelle vill zovill Koelsche hat…” (2002) broschure. They are from 1963 and 1951.
